At Rocky Mountain Foot and Ankle Center, we never fail to exhaust conservative treatment options. If orthotics, shoe modifications, physical therapy, or even plain old rest can provide the same results, we’ll spare you the knife.
However, sometimes a surgical procedure is necessary or preferred to repair a deformity, heal a sports-related injury, or otherwise get you back on your feet again, pain free. When that happens, trust Dr. Matthew Paden, Dr. Brett D. Sachs, and Dr. Dustin Kruse to provide the expert care you need. All are board-certified in foot and rearfoot reconstructive surgery.
Some of the deformities, conditions, and injuries we correct surgically include:
Bunions
These bony protrusions appear as bumps near the base of your big toe, and are typically caused by a genetic deformity in your foot structure combined with frequent wearing of constrictive, unsupportive footwear. Bunions can be very painful and make wearing regular shoes difficult. In surgery, the misaligned bone is trimmed and/or repositioned in order to restore the foot’s natural shape. Tailor’s bunions, which appear on at the base of the pinky toe rather than the large toe, can be corrected similarly.
Hammertoes
While it may start out as a gentle, flexible bending of one of your four smaller toes, this progressive condition can evolve into a rigid, painful deformity without early treatment. If conservative treatments can’t halt the progress or stop the pain, we can select a surgery to correct the problem. We also treat other, similar toe issues such as mallet toes, claw toes, and hallux rigidus.
Neuromas
Trauma or biomechanical issues may cause a benign nerve tumor, known as a neuroma, to form within your foot—classically, between the third and fourth toes. It may feel like you’re always standing on a bunched-up sock, and it can be painful if the thickened mass is pressing on sensitive tissues. We frequently perform surgery to remove the inflamed tissue in cases where other treatments have proven ineffective.
Flat Foot Reconstruction
Although many with flat feet live without trouble, for others—especially those who acquire the deformity later in life—it can significantly limit mobility, accelerate the development of arthritis, and cause severe pain. Our doctors are experts in flatfoot reconstruction, and will help you select a surgical procedure ideal for your situation, health, and desired lifestyle.
Congenital Deformities
To parents, nothing is more important than the health of their children. Our doctors specialize in surgical repair of inherited foot defects such as clubfoot, extra digits (polydactyly), or abnormally short metatarsal bones (brachymetatarsia).
Traumatic and Sports-Related injuries
Accidents happen. Muscles, tendons, ligaments, and even bones can strain, sprain, fracture and break due to an athletic injury, bad fall, or automobile accident. If you’ve broken a bone, torn your Achilles, or suffered any other traumatic injury to a lower limb, trust our experienced foot and ankle surgeons to make the repair quickly and correctly. If you’re a current patient and suffer an after-hours emergency, tell the ER staff that you are one of our patients and they will contact us so you can receive timely follow-up care.
These are just a few of the most common examples, but our doctors are trained in procedures including foot and ankle arthroscopy, total ankle replacement surgery, and more. If you need any surgical procedure performed on your feet or ankles, or you suspect you do, give us a call at (303) 423-2520 for a full evaluation. We have three Denver-area offices in Wheat Ridge, Golden, and Evergreen, and we also serve residents of Grand County via our office in Granby, CO.
